{"id":184,"date":"2022-09-12T12:07:27","date_gmt":"2022-09-12T19:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dekonstruktr.com\/tidepools\/?post_type=writing&#038;p=184"},"modified":"2022-10-08T11:19:43","modified_gmt":"2022-10-08T18:19:43","slug":"from-ashes-to-frog-spawn","status":"publish","type":"writing","link":"https:\/\/dekonstruktr.com\/tidepools\/writing\/from-ashes-to-frog-spawn\/","title":{"rendered":"From Ashes To Frog Spawn"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I cannot wait to be laid to <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">rest surrounded by peat <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">moss and slugs,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My rotting skin soothed by the embrace of chanterelle and deathcaps<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">let my hollowed bones be home to a salamander and my ribcage to a skink,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Algae coating what once were hands and ferns growing from what once <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">were feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let my teeth and fingers erode into the sand beneath the maze of a <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">mangrove\u2019s roots The fat on my thighs melt into the clay and silt in a lagoon <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">alive with frog song<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want my muscles eaten by a heron, picking at my ligaments to be <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">consumed by fish and toads,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and porous bones to be filled by lion\u2019s mane and cordyceps<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want frog spawn to fill my empty skull so that tadpoles may swim <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">through my ribcage I want my skin to be replaced by mud and I want <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">flowers to grow on every inch of my skeleton<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want the sun to kiss all of creation <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">atop my grave I want to become the <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">sand that lines the lake,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The foundation of great mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I want my fleeting, meager human life to come to a <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">meaningful end in bugs and moss and spores<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With my soul in eternity among the whispering and chirping of life <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">everlasting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","meta":[],"genre":[29,26],"year":[44],"class_list":["post-184","writing","type-writing","status-publish","hentry","genre-poetry","genre-writing","year-44"],"acf":{"contributor":"Emily Stangland","bio":"The concept of death scares me because of its uncertainty.
