A rainy day turns into a rainy week;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">hours to nitpick at only what is wrong. Pessimistic hummingbirds\u2014not in the sky\u2014 but perched on the branches of my intestines. Like wilted sunflowers in the middle of July, the sun refuses to point in my direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If only I could cut through the gloom,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">and grip the banister on the staircase of joy. I can almost smell euphoria\u2019s perfume,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">but the wooden steps have all been destroyed. A ten-letter-word, missiles loaded,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">my normal duplicate was murdered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Powder kegs of sorrow have already exploded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lines between sad and unwell are forever blurred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A swarm of bees\u2014the queen\u2019s favorite hive<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">burrowed, dripping honey, doubt, and intrusive thoughts, into my incapacitated mind\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">leaving me bumbling and distraught.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCalm down,\u201d they verbalize, as my body is swallowed whole by the ocean\u2019s remorseless riptide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My timorous heart is bitten out and hollow; certainty escapes like pieces of earth in a landslide. \u201cRelax,\u201d they utter,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">as I return from the edge of the milky way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like a butterfly\u2019s broken wings, I almost flutter\u2014 healing from thirty thousand light years of pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A seven-letter-word hanging over my head, neon lights\u2014hot pink iridescence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a war of me versus myself, hope turns up dead<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">on the bloodstained battle lines in my mind: obsolescence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"template":"","meta":[],"genre":[29,26],"year":[44],"class_list":["post-174","writing","type-writing","status-publish","hentry","genre-poetry","genre-writing","year-44"],"acf":{"contributor":"Amanda Macardle-Duale","bio":"Amanda McArdle-Duale is a sapphic writer, poet, and student at MiraCosta.
